So this past weekend was the lantern festival in Seoul. Me and some friends went up Saturday to check out what it was all about, didnt think pre-historic lights could be so interesting.

Tagpol park, a little area that had some interesting artifacts of old time Korea, this was a pavilion where families hung out.
A cool building that had an interesting overhang that we thought was the penthouse suites. And of course a topless swimming pool at the top, we couldnt find it again to gain access.
The top of a tower that once stood near the park, extremely old, that's why it had to be covered.
The first part of the parade, we got great seats near the end of the parade line at the front right on the street.
Dont have a clue what those say.
Didnt learn any more Korean from the time the first guys passed and I took the picture of the second guys, thus I still dont have a clue what this says.
Drum line leader.

Some solider carrying a flag.

They made a lantern float of my mountain side cabin ? How sweet of them!
Monks with lanterns.
If you have not yet noticed, there is a very common theme of Koreans carrying lanterns in this festival.
Regular dressed Koreans.
Teenage Koreans
Black Koreans...oh wait thats Michael.......he has been here three years, so I guess he is a black Korean.
Anime Koreans.
Disabled Koreans.

Old Koreans in "lil rascles" and Hover-Rounds.

See, many many many Koreans and lanterns.

oh wait, and animal shaped lanterns. They decided to mix it up a little bit.
And mythical creature lanterns, such as dragon-lion.
and the more commonly known, dragon-fish??

A group of monks seeing wonderful music on a huge float.

Ms Lotus 2012 waving to us all, she shot me a wink, Yes out of all the thousands of people she passed, she shot me a wink. OH YEA!

Different shaped lanterns

Are we getting a private special musical concert!?
Why yes we are! The perks of being a foreigner, and sitting next to a Black Korean, that happens to know just about every Korean ever born.

Dancing lanterns

A LANTERN OF MY FATHER!!!!!!!!!!

Lantern drum

Kids

Lantern with a big screen tv for a face

Nazi Lantern, well actually its a peaceful monk symbol, they are all over korea, no worries.

Pokemon Lanterns

A lantern that I know my Cousin Elisa would just love, it wouldnt fit in a box to ship back to you, sorry!

A smoke breathing dragon

A walking elephant lantern

A beer vending machine? Yes please

So we went out for a couple of drinks afterwards, but we kept it under control. Yeaaaaaa.........
No one is angry. here
The next day in Itaewon.... where I got some "authentic" Ray Bans (which broke three days later)

Thats pretty much it, it was a fun parade but the pictures make it look kinda boring. It was tons of lanterns for about two and half hours. Till next time folks. Keep it greasy

So last week my students spent a little bit of everyday preparing for sports day! Which is just like Field day in the states, except with beer and soju for the grown-ups, therefore Sports trumps Field day.

Thursday Kinder Class, the baby decides to show up with no pants, thats cool, I think pants are overrated, I would have joined her.......ummm if I wouldnt have gotten fired.
 Playing with Jenga blocks.
"Oh wait, did I just knock over your tower that you were working on? Sorry but can you really be mad at a face like this????" Damn she got me again
 On the cat walk BABY!

On my way to school for sports day I see the old bus I used to ride and the people that I used to ride it with every morning. A quick head nod and they are headed towards Daechi and myself to Midang.
 SPORTS DAY IS HERE!
Baby Kinder reppin the mean streets of Midang in her backwards cap. Straight BALLIN!
The rest of the Kinder Crew with their hats, and oversized white gloves. Thats their signature gansta clothing, rather than bandannas they rep White Gloves. Showing respect for the King of POP. RIP MJ. (They made me write that)
The 1st and 2nd grade teacher giving some instructions.
TEN HUT!
 Sprints
 ummm Photo Finish?

 RUN RUN RUN
The elders in the community came a running when they heard Soju and Beer were being served. But like most schools do we make them work for it. Inside the boxes are two students with bags of  "goodies". The elders had to line up and walk a bamboo "fishing pole" to the "fishing hole" to get a soju or beer fish.
Inside the bag-o-fish was beer, soju, soap, dried squid, and little other tasty snacks.

The beginning of the relay race. Run to the hula hoops then run to the....
Jumps ropes and then run to my station where you had to climb through a plastic tube.

So maybe giving all the elders alcohol before noon on a day that was 85 degrees wasnt the best idea. Like most parties that start that way the elders got a little rowdy, demanding more and more soju. They flipped a car, torched it, and started chanting. The cops had to come and pepper spray them.
The scene was worse than this......
 Then came the kinder race!

We had to have a teacher follow them to make sure the didnt want to turn back and do the tunnels again.
So we had to keep our end of the deal with the elders. After the hostage negotiations, and all seven children were returned in one piece, we promised the elders another game for them to play. They were separated male and females, them co-mingling was the root of the problem. They had to hit a plastic pig with a bamboo pole to the flag, and when the music plays you have to stop and dance! Then race back hitting the pig along the way.
The 1st and 2nd grader teacher dancing with one of the men.
At this point in the events I was volun-told to hold this pole withe a large blue ball on the end.
The following pictures are what I thought was going to be the last things I looked at while on this Earth.

The kinder teacher holding the other teams ball, those are bean filled sacks around her and I.
The objective is for the kids to hurl these sacks at the ball until it bursts. And since the aim and dexterity of 1st graders are not on par with that of Baseball pitchers, it was needless to say I got pelted with some of the "stray" or extremely well aimed sacks to the head and torso. Thank Goodness they didnt aim for the Family Jewels.
The other team won, YES, less welts for me!

The whole school showing off their drumming skills after weeks of practice.

At the end I was being pressured into singing a song at the karaoke machine that was brought out. Since I dont know really know the Korean language, singing Korean is not my forte. Though since I didnt sing they made me dance, which is just clapping and swaying back and forth to them. After half an hour of that, it was an early clock out and a start to a great relaxing weekend.

So I know it has been  a very long time since I have posted anything, and really there is no excuse but now that my camera is fixed here are some of the pictures I took today on my way to school. Im on the bus for 40 mins traveling up Chilgapsan Mountain to head to the little village of Midang.

The view outside my window, its the screen on the window that makes it look grainy.

Without the junkyard in the picture.....
During my walk to the bus
once again to the bus stop...
This is a weight station I pass by on my walk, today they where coaxing a cow into the little scale.....then headed off to.........ummmmm.........."A better place" aka My tummy, yummy!
On the bus now, taking pictures of the great sky as I pass by on of the bridges that cross the little creek we have.

 Half In half out.

The AMAZING VIEW of the little lake we have
Chugga Chugga Chugga, the little Cheonyang bus that could........huffing it up the mountain
